More Than My Waves

1.
My friend once told me
I remind him of the ocean
I thought it was silly of him to compare such a vast, deep, and mysterious thing to me.
He says
All people see are the waves
Crashing and burning with salt, harsh against the sand.
Soft and calming sometimes but with a rhythm you could never understand.
He says
That I'm more than my waves though
I'm more than my saltiness
More than my temporary calmness
He says
I am the middle of the ocean
Vast
Deep
Mysterious
Now when people ask me who I am
I tell them
Set sail and find out.

I am of the walked beach
I've heard the wind laugh
And stood on the pier water bound
I collected some shiny shells
Painted them with hues
And listened of the tinkling sound
I am of the trodden path
Grown from repeated stomps
I carry the thorns that arose
And some days I bloom
A majestic shade of blue
Darked from my woes.
