Sports Day

One of the most cherishable memories of school is Sports Day.

It is a day when students celebrate physical literacy and sportsmanship. Everyone cheers, laughs, and has an enjoyable time with their friends. With cheers comes rivalry and competition. Around a month passes with classrooms empty and the grounds full of water bottles, caps, and energy drinks. Students have their own house t-shirts and unique colorful props hanging like tiny flags in an ocean of children. Sports Day is a day of joy and excitement for students. It is a day when they can forget their worries and have fun. It is a memorable experience cherished for years. The last sports day of my school life was one of the best so far. The sports day in our school was usually held in December but this last year due to the covid pandemic our school decided to organise the annual sports day in November itself. Our school started preparing for the big day in October.

Most of the senior classes were busy organizing the group and deciding on the event theme. Me being in the senior class had the opportunity to pick on which grade got to do what. The school council members team which included the perfects, head boy, head girls, house captions, and others came up with the plan that the young pupils would perform simple aerobics and the older students would take part in the school Marshal Cadet Force which included archery, rifle shooting, zip lining, sword fighting, etc. This way, the younger students had the opportunity to have fun while the seniors got to experience more complex activities.

This plan was a success, and everyone enjoyed the activities. Students and faculty praised school council members for their thoughtful plans. The prior preparation for the sports day neglected academics. Our class, being the senior most in the school, had the responsibility of the event and preparing for our boards at the same time. Some of us felt the pressure and it took a toll on our studies. However, in the end, we learned the importance of managing time and how to balance our responsibilities. We were also proud of our accomplishment of making the sports day a success.

At our request, the Pune Army Chief was invited to become our annual sports day chief guest. He has been an inspiration to our school from the very start. He gave us a very inspiring speech on the importance of working hard and never giving up. His words of encouragement inspired us and motivated us to work hard. By the end of October, our school's music band and council worked together to perform a warm welcoming celebration. Invitation cards were given to the students to take home just four days before the event. The seating arrangement for parents was done in such a manner that parents could see their children perform on the ground.

Finally, the annual sports day came. To set up the evening event, students in grades eight, nine, and ten were contacted well in advance. Sportively, we worked hard to put everything together. The speakers, medals, props, snacks, scoreboard, relay baton, and chairs were arranged. Everyone was ready and excited about the event. The spectators started to gather, and the atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm. The event was an absolute success and was enjoyed by all. For maintaining discipline, the event flow was circulated throughout the groups. The different houses were given different themes according to which they had to perform a routine. After the performances, awards were distributed to the winning houses. The yellow house won the event. As soon as the winning house's name was announced the whole house of hundreds of children ran to the podium to revive their house trophy. The atmosphere was filled with joy and enthusiasm. Every house cheered on the winners and congratulated them on their success. The event concluded with a memorable group photograph. The photograph was displayed on the school's Facebook page and on the school notice board.

We shared a special moment because this was our final day of celebrating and taking part in any school event before we passed out from our school. The memories we will take with us for the rest of our lives will be some of the most unforgettable memories we will ever have. We had shared so many experiences together and were now parting ways, making this moment even more special.
